Nashville Eye Doctor: Helping you to see more clearly the world around you!

Do you remember when was the last time you had visited the doctor for an eye-exam? If you do not, then this is the right time to make an appointment with the eye-doctor. It is not mandatory that if you have poor eye-sight, then only you have to visit the eye-doctor. There is a possibility that you might be suffering from cataract, macular degeneration or other problems, which are only detected by proper eye-testing. Therefore 1, it is recommended for everyone to visit the Nashville Eye Doctor regularly.

When is the right time to start up the eye-checkups?
It is recommended to have your eyes tested in every 2 years until you reach the age of 40 years. If you use the contact lenses, then it is necessary to get your eye-exams conducted on a regular basis. Even children should get their eyes tested in their school going age. Those people who do not have any problem with their eyes, ,must visit the eye-doctor once or twice after a whole year till they reach the age of 65 years to rule out different complications.

How much time an eye-exam usually takes?

Depending upon the condition, it might be the first visit for some doctors or if there is a follow-up visit or simply a routine check-up. It usually takes an hour in the first visit because the doctor has to conduct eye-exam on the whole. On the other hand, follow-ups do not require much time.

What to anticipate during the routine eye-checkups?

The foremost thing which the doctor will ask you is, either you have any sort of vision problem or not. If your answer is yes, then the next question will be about how long are you having it and in what circumstances it becomes better or worse. The doctor also reviews the history of glasses or contact lenses and inquires about the overall health of the patient. If the patient is taking any sort of medicine, then the medical history of family is also needed along with the following tests:

Visual acuity test

This test usually checks the vision by the Snellen’s chart. This chart is used where the patient is required to read the random letters which become smaller line by line as the eyes move down through the chart.

Dioptre or refraction test

This test is conducted to check whether the glasses are needed or not. If the patient is of 40 years of age and finds it difficult to read up, then the doctor will place different types of lenses one by one to check whether reading the snellen chart has become easier or not.

Slit-lamp examination

To assess the eye-health of the patients and to detect different sign and symptoms of different diseases, the patient undergoes the Snellen chart exam. The doctor usually examines each and every part of the eye in this test.

Keratometry

This test measures the curvature of cornea. The doctor focuses light on the cornea and will evaluate its reflection. It is much useful in assessing the proper fitting for contact lenses.
