Tips For Natural Teeth Cleaning

Regular teeth cleaning is often regarded as brushing once or twice per day, and maybe swirling around some mouthwash. But there is much more involved in regular cleaning and maintenance.

What You Need For Natural Teeth Cleaning?

1. Toothbrushes

You should replace your toothbrush every two or three months. If you fail to do this, you are not doing anything other than using a worn out brush to transport bacteria around your mouth. Worn out brushes will not scrape away plaque nor will they remove food.

Brushing Teeth

When brushing your teeth, you want the toothbrush to be at a 45-degree angle to your gums. You should use circular motions for best results. Brushing your teeth two times per day, at the end and beginning, for two minutes will reduce your risk of many infections, cancers, and other forms of decay by fifty percent.

That being said, you don’t always have to rely on traditional toothpaste filled with sodium lauryl sulfate. This is in almost all toothpaste, and it is the stuff that makes shampoo and toothpaste bubble and foam. It also dampens the sweet receptors and increases the sour receptors in your mouth which are why drinking orange juice right after brushing is a painful experience.

You can try substituting traditional toothpaste with lemon paste, made with salt and a few drops of lemon. You might also consider baking soda, which not only naturally bleaches your teeth but when mixed with water and salt and made into a paste can grind away at that nasty plaque.

Both the baking soda and lemon mixtures should be used periodically and not every time because they do contain acids which will break down the enamel on your teeth if overused. But every other day is perfect.

In addition to your teeth, your tongue should be scraped clean too. Tongue plaque contributes to bad breath because the bacteria sit there all day after we eat. Tongue scrapers can be used more effectively than toothbrushes, but they are a second product you have to remember to use.

2. Dental Floss

Dental floss is imperative to comprehensive tooth care, according to every Bethesda dentist. If bacteria is left to fester in your mouth by way of food residue in your teeth, it can result in swollen and painful gums. This is why flossing after each meal is the way to go.

If you start practicing your flossing activities with your eyes closed, rather than right in front of a mirror, you will cultivate the skills you need to floss on the go—in your car, in your office, or while in bed. Keep floss in your car, purse, office drawer, and nightstand. You will be grateful that you mastered this skill right before a big post-lunch meeting.

3. Healthy Eating

Crunchy foods will allow you to clean your teeth as you eat. Eating an apple a day really does naturally remove plaque from your teeth, but it also provides malic acid which liquefies stains. Other crunchy veggies like carrots, broccoli, and celery stimulate saliva flow which washes away the plaque.

Strawberries are exceptional natural whitening agents, one often used as a natural substitute for harsh chemical treatments. Be sure to wash away any strawberry paste or residue after 5 minutes because the sugars and acids will damage your teeth if you leave them on for too long. Such foods will help keep the exterior layer of your teeth bright and shiny.

Another hidden gem among the dental community is to eat a piece of cheddar cheese after your meal. It is theorized that this helps to prevent tooth decay by stimulating enamel remineralization. You can also integrate milk and yogurt which contain phosphorus and calcium, both of which support re-mineralization of your tooth enamel.

4. Dental Scaling

If all goes well and you apply natural home care methods regularly, scaling will not be a regular occurrence for you. Dental scaling is a form of in-office deep cleaning from your Bethesda Dentist which can help treat gum disease.

The bacteria which contributes to gum disease often gets stuck below the gum line, but scaling (an intense cleaning) can clean these areas which are often missed during regular dental cleanings. Scaling can be done with dental scalers to remove the plaque manually, or with ultrasonic instruments to chip away at the tartar and wash out the plaque buildup.

Overall, with regular teeth cleaning and natural remedies, you can sustain your bright and shiny smile.
